Transforming an In-Ground Garden to Raised Beds

The Garden Girls Transformed an In-Ground Garden to Raised Beds Adding More Growing Space, Beauty and Functionality

Our clients, Marian and Spyros, are long time gardeners growing herbs, eggplant, tomatoes and peppers throughout the years.  They had amended their soil greatly and were having success, but it was time for a change in the backyard.  They were ready for a transformation.

Raised Beds Means No More Bending Over and More Room for Veggies

After seeing the Garden Girls’ raised beds, Marian and Spyros decided it was time to add some height to their gardens.  No more backbreaking gardening for them!!

To grow their favorites like peppers, eggplant, tomatoes and carrots that take up more room in the garden than herbs and lettuces, we decided to install three cedar beds.  In the warm seasons, they can grow tomatoes, peppers and eggplant.  And, in the winter, they can dedicate a bed to growing carrots and use the other beds for broccoli and lettuce.

Marian and Spyros say, “it’s the same space we had before, but we can’t believe how much more we can fit in our raised beds versus in ground.”

Gravel Walkways Allow the Clients to Access the Gardens without Worrying about Tripping or Wet, Muddy Shoes

The new gravel walkways elevate the gardening experience for Marian and Spyros.  When Marian and Spyros had their previous garden, they were stepping in the soil to plant, tend and harvest.  Who wants to deal with wet, muddy shoes every time you garden?  Now, it’s easy to pop-out to the garden for a quick harvest.

Marian and Spyros liked the new gravel pathway so much that we added a matching walkway to another portion of the yard where grass struggled to grow.  Now, they have easy access from the side yard to the pool.

Completing the Backyard Renovation with Citrus Trees and Pollinators

As longtime gardeners, Marian and Spyros know the importance of bees, butterflies and pollinators.  Garden Girls updated a space near the raised beds with salvias, bulbine, lavender, sage and lemon balm.  The rocks add an interesting architectural element to the pollinator space.  And, no garden space is complete without citrus so we planted two lemon trees .  We can’t wait to experience Marian’s delicious lemon marmalade.
